Living History...

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon we took a roadtrip to see The Daniel Boone Homestead. They had some special education things and an Easter Egg Hunt. Mr. J and Mrs. C ( honorary Grandparents) offered to go with us to help with the kids. It was the perfect beautiful Sunday afternoon, relaxing with extra hands to help with the younger ones. 



We love the first stop on the tour. Everyone was dressed in period clothing. We could view the house set up just as it would have been back in the day.



Can imagine cooking like this?!


This lady was very informative  and gave us lots of good info on living back in the 1800's.

Rope bed and a trundle bed. My kids are really into the Little House on the Prairie books right now, so they were fascinated by seeing an actual trundle bed and a straw tick!


Spinning wheel where she was spinning flax.


Next stop was the blacksmith shop... (interesting tidbit, my dad was a blacksmith when I was a kid)
This guy was making nails.


He had lots of good info for the kids. They listened politely, but they JUST WANTED EASTER EGGS!


 Next step, the barn...

This guy was much more interested in handing out Easter Eggs then giving us any history!

These are the graves of the people who owned this farm after Daniel Boone...

Daniel Boone is one my kids favorite people from history. David who rarely reads, read an entire book about Daniel Boone. The kids can tell you all kinds of info about Daniel Boone that  are not taught in a regular history book.

Friday Encouragement

The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God,which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

TBT April 2008

Check out Part 1 and Part 2

I said Good by to my soul mate, my best friend and my lover on that beautiful April day.
One year later... I  traveled to Montana, Ohio, Indiana and North Carolina in that year. I  cried buckets of tears, prayed and experienced the reality of God's promises. I slowly started the grieving journey.

I  also started a new journey... the new reality, new dreams, new goals.

This is  story of God's grace, God's calling and  my obedience. God and I had become close friends. I relied on Him for every decision, every breath, and  even the ability to get out of bed in the morning.

He whispered in my heart. A cry for the orphan. for the lonely. for the broken. for the unwanted.

I stepped out in obedience. I needed a passion, something to live for.

April 10, 2008, I became a mother for the very first time, a "love mom", one who loves and nurtures temporarily. God had put the call of foster care on my heart.


This has been a blessing, a gift, a challenge and a journey that has drawn me closer to God. I considered it a privilege to be asked by God to be a mother to many different kiddoes that first summer.

But each loss, as each child moved on, was like ripping a bandage off the wound of loss.. But each one was a step in my journey.


6 months after becoming a "mom", God presented me with a special gift. A gift for my obedience.
